Mrs. Laura Swett to David Davis

December 13, 1862

Back to Sources
This letter written to David Davis is profound in its emotional appeal to the Judge for some sort of help. More than any other letter in this chain of correspondence, this letter may have been the catalyst to Lincoln's letter to Fanny. Read Davis' response to Mrs. Swett's letter to see the impact her words had on the Supreme Court Judge, and subsequently, the President of the United States.
